In a way, the rhythm of the movie remembered me "Dunkirk". It is a more real life cadence than most war movies adopt. Not saying it was bad or good; the subject is so complex, with such a rich array of "things to be shown", that we often feel curious about things not shown or explained, once again, for a focus of the movie on its main characters, specially Lee - Dunst is flawless - and the deliberated choice to not obviously portrait a simply blue/red conflict. Actually, among the many things the movie do show, we see a multicolored America, both in the alliances and in scattered militias and riots.
A movie - and particularly this one - is not about giving answers, but provoking questions. I was expecting more overall, but some scenes are really good, and the movie gets its goal. But probably, not for the masses - like every complex subject that really matters.
