The best part was when the film finished, such a relief.
Unlike the first two installments to the Fantasy Beasts series, which I quite enjoyed, and brought me to watch Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore, I was disappointed. The film just bored me, and everything seemed predictable, even though I had seen no spoilers. I only gave two stars to give the special effects some credit.
Whilst my views on the film might be partly overshadowed by being a fan of Johnny Depp, who was sadly not in the film, I did go into the film knowing that he would not be in it. I watched it and hoped to like the new Grindelwald, however, to my dismay, I just felt he was as his appearance described, bland. Specifically for a Harry Potter villain. Harry Potter villains always seem to have quirky appearances, such as Voldemort and him losing his nose to a baby, Bellatrix Lestrange then had wild hair with an even wilder personality, then the old Gellert Grindelwald with his unique hairstyle and much more. The new Grindelwald however, even if it was to stray as far away as possible from the appearance Johnny Depp gave Grindelwald, it had no unique qualities. You might say the white strip in his hair, but Sweeney Todd did that first and personally, rocked it better. I honestly just feel that there is nothing memorable about him.
However, I will say, the actor made the character fit the role of a villain, just not a villain you'd usually see in a children's book. Whilst adults can enjoy the world of Harry Potter, the initial target audience is younger people, hence my feelings towards the seriousness of the film being a little unsure. It doesn't help that the film wasn't exciting, like magic should be.
