A compelling parable of how a civilised society can be destroyed by unleashing chthonic forces and the cult of the savage. There is a charming medieval atmosphere at first that slowly transforms into a Norse like darkness. The book is filled with the narrator's observations on people and situations written in the style of philosophical aphorisms. A book worthy of reading several times.

Totally griping and driving plot and fantastic acting that make one identify with people who are, frankly, monsters.
