Nut Butter – Google

Blown away that this was someone's first work directing and writing and producing. Started off completely engaging and though it was imperfect around the middle and last acts I was completely engrossed and the themes and messages touched Spirit in me so deeply I felt like I got to watch this movie at exactly the right time in my life. Happy that this was made and I got to experience this in theatres. This was a soulful action revenge flick. Also the music was perfect. And all the acting was beautiful. Everyone fit their role perfectly and there was never a moment of disbelief.

Two and a half stars. Not bad. Watchable. A little boring but not bad overall and I’m not really into superhero movies. I chose to see this in theatres because I just needed to get out of the house and it was playing at the perfect time for me to get there. I heard nothing but horrible things about this movie prior but after seeing it it’s clear to me that people just love to be negative. I saw Aquaman 2 and that was absolutely terrible and I fell asleep. I actually was interested in this movie up until the very end. I wouldn’t care about seeing a sequel but as a stand alone flick it works

This to me was the perfect comfort movie. It is not a great movie. The words echoed by the lead felt noticeably wooden and unbelievable at times which implies to me that the script was lacking and the main was not able to overcome that. But also I just didn’t believe the lead was suitable to play this part - her acting was the weakest out of the whole cast. All the twists and turns didn't feel sharp or as exciting as they should have been - again, I am looking to the script to this issue as well. But it is a movie I would gladly watch again. There is heart here and a level of ridiculousness that makes it so fun and watchable. Also, Sam Rockwell is a brilliant actor and I fell into his character completely without issue and I googled Sofia Boutella afterwards. I knew I recognized her and would enjoy seeing what she brings to larger roles. 5 stars for rewatchability but objectively this is a 3 star movie at best, I just love it for reasons I am still unpacking. Maybe I am just a sucker for an original thriller spy action flick and a female lead figuring out her true badass purpose in life. Who knows, who cares, I loved it.

Pretty boring. It was sweet and had it’s cute moments. A nice depiction of people with normal lives of privilege, support and family who still struggle with life’s bittersweet moments. Even with a supportive husband to hold you as you cry and an extremely respectful long lost then found childhood friend it is still extremely difficult to close the door on a possibility. I don’t write that judgementally but reflectively - life provides tough situations. I liked learning about ‘inyeon’ and the poetry behind this. I didn’t particularly care or was moved by the woulda coulda shoulda of the leads but it was a nice enough watch.

More style than substance. Thought the acting was great - whenever I see LaKeith Stanfield on screen I’m intrigued - loved seeing black Jesus and Mary Magdalene - just loved seeing my people period but the jokes missed more than hit and by the end of the movie I had no idea what the message was supposed to be. I followed the plot. I understand the story followed a man finding growth and faith at the end of his life or so he thought - from this I am assuming part of the message was that we are only renewed by faith but that’s where the problem lies for me: The fact that I have to assume. There were a lot of ideas scattered throughout this movie and not one of them dominated to create a main ideal or point that was easy to grasp by the end. So in the final scene when we see the light bulb again is this to say that ideas are man’s divine spark to which we can choose to do good works equal to miracles in the sense that those it affects are left better off and even renewed? I am left grasping for straws here. It was entertaining enough to watch but for a movie that had Jesus, miracles and a crucifixion I wasn’t moved and I think part of the issue lies with the lack of through line for this script. It was both saying too much and not anything with conviction at the same time.

Loved seeing this in a packed theatre - All races, all ages, everyone laughing at the same damn time. I didn't look into this movie too deeply before seeing it so I squealed in delight when Erika Alexander came on screen. Love her. So talented. Yes, this movie is funny but really it is equal parts touching. It is not a perfect movie but it was perfectly entertaining and expertly thought out and one of the better movies I have watched on the big screen in awhile. Really appreciate that a script like this was greenlit and allowed life.

Beautiful film. A reminder that parents are just people too. Flaws and all - when we love it is completely, in better and in worse. Adam was given both a gift and a curse. An opportunity to open his heart which lends it vulnerable for the breaking.. This movie cracked my heart open further. I walked home and had a moment where I wanted to pull at my hair and scream I felt my heart grow so suddenly. Realizing my own familial pain and understanding that to love is to simultaneously allow heartbreak. My heart is large enough to house the two. Lastly, I was alone watching this in a packed theatre and had gotten there late. Someone else was sitting in my seat but luckily there was an empty one close by thanks to someone not showing up. The man I sat beside was quietly sobbing towards the end and I fought an urge to place my hand on his shoulder in recognition. Instead as everyone got up to leave we both remained in our seats and sat side by side watching two men slowly become a starry night sky. Afterwards I turned to him and we both agreed on how beautiful the movie was and he shared with me what I had missed at the very beginning. I got to look this kind stranger in the eyes and thank him and wish him a nice night. What a lovely bit of connection to end a movie like this.
