Moofie: The Fabelmans
Based on Steven Spielberg’s surprisingly dull childhood.
Rated: M
Runtime: 151 minutes (2hr 31mins)
Awards: Golden Globes Winner Best Motion Picture 2023 (a perfect example of brown nosing sycophants awarding the old guard)
The Nitty-gritty: A limping self-indulgent drawn out yawn fest, which my sister and I could only sit through 1 hour and 20 minutes. The acting was reminiscent of a low-rent theatre production with weird voice projection. Maybe this is how people from the 50’s talked? It reminded me of that disturbing animation movie Polar Express, with the dead-eyed robotic boy that was supposed to be charming but more soulless horror show. The movie also featured bizarre cartoon facial expressions and leaver it to beaver American white middle class nostalgia that Trump thought of as the good old days. In true Hollywood unrealistic standards of beauty for women, Michelle Williams, 42, joker-like frozen face and maniacally happy demeanour was the real stickler for me. She was truly awful and I found her hard to watch.
For someone who is often revered as a movie making genius, he had the most boring childhood which gave zero indication of his later talent. This vanity project by an obviously indulged older white guy should have been kept as a diary entry by Steven S, aged 12.
