Given its respectable titles, I had great expectations for Build the Life You Want: The Art and Science of Getting Happier. Regretfully, the book did not live up to my expectations.
The idea is fascinating: integrating knowledge from self-help and psychology to develop a happiness road map. But the information seems cliched and superficial. A large portion of the guidance is general and restates concepts that have been covered more thoroughly in other volumes. It is shallow and provides superficial tactics that would be better suited for a blog post than a comprehensive manual for changing one's life.
The writing style occasionally comes across as condescending, as if the authors are making an excessive effort to inspire rather than relying on the content to do so organically.
