To start with, this is a visually very beautiful film. South-west Tasmania would not offer the viewer any lesser prospect. That beauty lies at its heart, and is ever with us as the film follows the various strands of the greater story: the campaign to defend the river against the might of the Tasmanian government and the Hydro Electric Commission; the social and political spirit of Australia at that time; the great determination and courage of the defenders, and the politicians who joined with them, and of course the personal story of the man who made the film. There is so much information, so much heart and warmth, and it is eventually woven so deftly so as to never over-burden us in one area nor leave a deficiency of attention. Superb film-making.
