I saw this film when it came out and it was stunning....how the U.S. just let Cuba slip into communist hands and let Batista and his thugs run this country and terrific people into the hands of the Castro brothers who were the only hope for people wanting a better life for an entire place. And against this background you have Redford living La Vita Loca until he meets the beautiful and commited wife of a revolutionary good guy who feels that he must side with Castro against the Batista regime. And then he realizes that her sense of loyalty to her husband and his cause is a beautiful thing, and that is what is missing from his own life. Great script....when Redford asks her if she wants to change the world, then says "change mine", it is a heart stomping moment....and at the end when he has to get out of Havana, she comes to meet him at the Port and she finds him and says to him "Have you been waiting for me"? and he says "All my Life", you just feel this is so real....It is an updated Casablanca moment...the final scene in the Keys when he walks out and gives a reflection about how she changed his life and how he is waiting for "someone who may have been blown off course, because this is Hurricane country" sums it up for someone who has loved and lost a love.....it never goes away, and you find it hard to let go....and the writier, Judith Rascoe, got it right all through this remarkable film....too bad American reviewers are so myopic....not enough blood and sex for their tastes.....Beautifully filmed and the music by Dave Grushen is haunting.
