I feel like the negative reviews are a product of the masses seeing a Adam Sandler movie pop up on Netflix; only to find it's nothing they expected.
As a lifelong fan of his, I was curious to see him take on a different role. I figured this movie wouldn't be quite as gripping as other recent space movies like Interstellar - but I was pleasantly surprised.
There were some predictable elements and the plot is pretty easy to follow. Exploring the idea of beginnings and endings is nothing unusual but I really liked how the ending left several things up to the viewer's interpretation.
What struck me is when the movie ended, I found myself considering whether I allow ambition or pride to overshadow the love and gratitude I show to my family.
Sometimes a simple reminder is all that's necessary to take a step back and discern what truly matters in life. Isn't that all you can really ask for in a movie?
