This game is hard. No way around that. The controls do not help the game either and the sluggish gameplay lambasts that as well. That taken into consideration this was a launch window title for the GameBoy and the very first Castlevania on GameBoy. That does not exactly excuse the game for playing poorly. With time dedicated to the title it does get easier, but realize that the sequels are much better. Or you can opt for the NES Castlevania which has subweapons and hearts are used for subweapon energy. While the game is ostensibly bad, it does have a certain charm to it. Play it, but understand it is not the greatest outing for Castlevania and does not represent 2D Castlevania as a whole.
