Is it worth the hype?
If you're used to cookie-cutter Marvel superhero movies, like the familiarity of them, you'll probably be dissapointed.
But if you're open-minded, then we're talking.
Robert Pattinson does a good job playing emo, soul-searching Batman. His Bruce Wayne is a broken man, haunted by the past. He's not in the stage of 'have-fun-go-mad' playboy status yet. His "I am vengeance" Batman is a vigilante still haven't found the right formula to channel his anger and frustration to the massively corrupt Gotham city. But most of all, he's a detective.
When a serial killer (The Riddler) started to take on the mayor and several 'respected' people while unmasking their corrupt nature, Bruce has to face the worst possibility: "Were his parents among them?"
This Batman maybe not suits for everybody, especially kids. It's not colorful and fan-service like, say, Spider-man: No Way Home, but quite the opposite. The choice of going visually dark works really well in some scenes but for all 3 hours runtime feels a bit too much. Lacking grand-scale action by today's superhero movies standard, but still good. Marvel initially tried to mash up superhero genre with thriller/horror and failed miserably (The New Mutants), but DC gets it right with this one.
So, is it worth the hype?
For me, it's halfway there. It's a good & pretty gripping movie, but I wish they go all out like The Joker, instead of being limited by PG-13 rating. I wanna see more of Rob Pat's Batman in the future, tho.
