Horrible adaptation. The movie, which was terrible in its own right, far surpasses the series. That's how bad it is. Lingering too long on unnecessary moments, speeding through plots that are central to the book, and adding unnecessary plot points that do nothing to serve the story, this show was a disappointment from beginning to end. Steven Moffatt once again puts his arrogance on full display throughout the series, with unearned overconfidence and a hairy-knuckled middle finger to the fans and heart of the book. He clearly thought he'd done well enough to earn a second season, thereby leaving the shallow husk of the story wide open without any indication of resolve. This show will not, however, get that second season. And those of us who had hoped to have this fascinating story finally told RIGHT will be left bitterly disappointed from the moment you see Henry's terrible wig and Claire's uninspired dead-eyed glances into the camera until the very end (a MUSICAL number that had no business being thrust into the show). Don't waste your time with this one. Better to leave it buried in the past where it belongs.
