I’ve never been felt more speechless at the end of a movie before in my life.
Jordan Peele is quite brilliant, Get Out and Us were creepy and psychologically thrilling, but this one was just…weird? Confusing? I’m at a loss for words.
Sadly, I would only recommend the film to friends so I could watch it with them and then at the end go, “What did you think?” And for them to say “Wait, what in the world just happened??”
Although cinematically beautiful, the plot, as well as the characters’ motivations, didn’t make much sense to me. The characters seemed more interested in singlehandedly killing and exposing the alien on film than they did about saving their own lives.
The main antagonist, the alien, thing, is an enigma and not in a good way. I am all for complex narratives, but I must be able to keep up with it. The plot is confusing and it seems like a jumble of good ideas for scenes that ultimately fell flat when strung together into a film.
The scene in the stable was so so terrifying, I had to close my eyes out of terror. I also thought the house incident was incredibly imaginative. So, if this review was purely based of its cinematic prowess, I would have given it 5 stars.
