It's obvious that someone is a huge fan of Dahl's books. The movie reminds me of his books and other classics like Matilda. It was a very cute family movie. Songs won't be memorable well maybe that "scrub, scrub" but the dancing was great. Timothee is such a cutey and I was really impressed with him having to step into the legends of Gene Wilder and Johnny Depp's shoes. Well Johnny Depp's Willy is a moot point since I believe this movie totally ignores it.
The only thing I had a problem with is the obvious fat jokes with Keegan Michael Key's character. Like it's 2023 enough with shaming people but I guess that is very in line with Mr. Dahl's books. I loved Hugh Grant's Oompa loompa dancing, he was a super grouchy loompa and I was living for it. The inn keepers were good and funny, and the rich chocolate dude gagging at the word "poor" was hilarious. The little girl who played Noodle did a great job and I hope she has a long career.
It was a cute movie, and I was super excited for it for the last 3 years. Great to say I wasn't disappointed. Especially with the very last song that is played.
