Background: I am a 39 year old male who took my 4 year old daughter to a 1:40pm opening day screening of Spirit Untamed as a surprise. We live in Los Angeles and like all had a unique previous 16 months.
Spoiler Alert: We left early because my daughter was confused, scared and asking to go home.
Past: We’ve seen a lot of “Spirit: on Netflix. She is our eldest, we also have a 2 year old son and another daughter who is 1. As mentioned, we’ve seen plenty of “Spirit” and as a made-for-children show goes - it is Terrific!
Happening: It was our daddy-day-out and I thought this would be homerun. We walked in, she held my phone as they scanned our tickets, we bough popcorn, we watched previews and all that was amazing. She and I were happy to be alone together and she was mesmerized by the big screen…. Until the movie started.
The movie: The theme song was out. They killed her mother within 5 minutes and all the characters/sets/designs were very different. If this were a new movie idea without any backstory then I would understand but its not! This is a Netflix show that grabbed enough attention to warrant a theatre release immediately after a pandemic with controlled occupancy. Nobody except diehard fans (3 - 8 years old) are going to see it. And you changed everything that was familiar.
Why?
