The cast did what they could with the material. While I like a lot of Blumhouse films, this film was total rehash from the original (starting with the opening dog fight scene). There are also some goofy ideas about DIY exorcism which don't help the story. Also, there are (maybe?) some borrowed ideas from Stephen King's IT in the "sewers of hell" scene (?). Really not scary from beginning to end. FYI - the original film still holds up (even with the 70s-era fx). And the book is terrifying.
