Like some of the best stories/movies/books, Slumberland is about accepting the loss of a loved one. The viewer is following the journey of young Nemo, an adolescent girl who’s father has been lost at sea, as she is forced to leave her home and acclimate to life with an uncle who she’s never met.
It’s a heartbreakingly sad, hilarious, and genuinely imaginative adventure. Slumberland is visually stunning, the special effects are impressive (and adorable in the case of Pig,) and the actors are well cast. Marlow Barkley manages to somehow convey both strength and vulnerability as Nemo, while Jason Momoa and Chris O’Dowd are perfectly cast as two sides of the same coin.
Slumberland is well worth a watch, but be forewarned that it does get emotional and will certainly strike a nerve in anyone grieving the loss of a parent. 💜
