Bad Education is character driven, with exceptional acting, so I'm not sure why anyone would be upset with gay characters or with a straight actor portraying a gay character. I assumed we had progressed. But his sexuality is a major aspect of the character, deftly played by Hugh Jackman. In order to convince people that he is straight, the character places a phony picture of a bride on his desk, telling people he's a widower. He may have believed that this was necessary to maintain his position and statius in the community. But much of the embezzled money is used to maintain his appearance, pay for an apartment for him and his partner, and for a home for his younger boyfriend. Despite the heinous acts, Jackman allows the character to be vulnerable and sympathetic. Allison Janney's performance is also of a high caliber, as she brings humor, desperation, and vulnerability to the role. Bad Education is definitely worth viewing.
