Definitely watch The Affair! My TL;DR: if the Australian Offspring is an intense family drama where only good things happen to lovable people, The Affair is likewise, but mostly bad things are heaped on characters that range from annoying to hateful. Yet its greatness outweighs its weakness. The Affair can be awesomely fantastic. Ruth Wilson's Alison Bailey is Shakespearean in her tragedy. Even a photograph of her after her death will bring a lump to your throat. But it can also be awesomely irritating. Its biggest weakness is that every time the plot needs some juice, the writers induce even the unlikeliest of couples (I hope I can use the British euphemism here) to sh@g. I swear that in some episodes you'll expect two randos passing in the street to immediately drop trow ... and sh@g. Please watch it though!

I don’t understand how a series about superheroes gone bad can be so ... boooooring. That’s likely because we rarely get to see their badness up front. It’s all talk and moody dialogue about how really, really bad they are. One memorable scene in season one has Homelander and Maeve deliberately let an airliner full of terrified passengers crash and burn, but that’s 30 seconds or so in hours of tedium.

One of my favorite movies. Ever. From the opening title sequence to the breathtaking final image, it never lets you down. Jon Voight gives the performance of a lifetime. I first saw it when it was released in 1985 and now again in 2020. It’s just as fresh, exciting and moving as it was 35 years ago. It’s playing now on Amazon Prime. You’re in lockdown. You’ve got nothing else to do. Watch it!!
