This miniseries began wonderfully... but then, episode by episode, began slowly sliding deeper and deeper into the realm of fantasy—to the point where it ultimately required a complete suspension of disbelief, and a denial of the true prejudices and career-wrecking histories of the actual Hollywood filmmaking industry in the 1940s and beyond. By far the most offensive and ludicrous episode of all was the seventh, which slid completely off the rails. It’s a shame, too, because “Hollywood” was a great concept with lots of potential. While watching the last installment, I found myself suddenly wishing it would turn out to be one of the main characters dreaming. (A plot device I usually despise.) Oh well. On to something more fulfilling, hopefully.
