The film rewrites history from the perspective of pc culture. Ooh...does that make it Art, then, rather than History ? No. It’s neither. It’s maybe worth watching for a bit of a laugh. David Tennant is an excellent actor and we know that John Knox was very beardy. Unfortunately though I kept being reminded of the beardy guy at the bridge, “ What, is your quest?”, in Monty Python’s ‘ The Search for the Holy Grail’. This film has beaten my previous award winner, ‘ Worst historical film’ - ‘ First Knight’, to second place. ‘ First Knight’ was pure unintentional comedy almost throughout. This one though, is so dull, so pc, so lacking in pace and energy that it’s soporific. What was good about it ? I’ve no idea. I feel sorry for all the actors, actresses and extras who had to hang about often in the rain, filming it. There should be an award though, for managing to make anything from the fascinating Tudor period seem only like a cross between a soap episode and ‘ 101 pc ways to knit a sock’. The two female leads were good though and they deserve awards too, for not running away, halfway through the shooting of the film.
