This book is extremely disappointing and unsatisfying. I accept that books in a series should make the reader want to know more about the characters in succeeding books, but each book should still be complete in itself. This book slowly builds up the reader's interest in Thorliff, the main character, and then as suspense is at its peak, abandons him in a crisis and ends the book without any resolution. This seems to me to be a manipulative technique to try to make the reader buy the next book in the series.
