Quite a complex film. Many "traditional" values are questioned and sometimes the answers are left to the viewer.
Maxine Peake, one of our best and finest while Charles Dance does menacing and spiteful too well. Freddie Fox shows a great versatility and is very watchable as is Tanya Reynolds.
Maxine Peake's Fanny Lye has you urging her on to stand up for herself and for herself first. Too often women, mothers, as supposed to defend child and man before herself but without the women a family can lose its heart and reason. However it shouldn't be at the cost of her intellect and dignity.
A very good film, greatly acted and beautifully shot.
