Overall, the book was very good and joyful to read, with a few minor issues which I’ll cover later.
Firstly, the characters in this book are very relatable to anyone and these characters you become extremely attached to throughout the book. It also included lots of suspense. As I was reading the book, I was always intrigued with what new answers and questions lay on the next page. I also adored the usage of birds in the story. In the story David Almond used birds as hints for the next scene, page or chapter and used them to give some more emotion or depth in the story. It was if the birds were always present.
Well, why didn’t I give the story 5 stars? The only real problem I had with the story was that we never truly learn what Skellig is or where he comes from, we can only guess. Also thought the main character and the neighbor could have had some sort of romantic scene.
Summary, of the first few chapters.

One day he decides to enter the garage of his new home, even though his parents have told him not to. When he enters, he gets the shock of a lifetime...
This was an amazing book and if you are a teacher, I highly recommend it. Even if you’re not you should still read. Who knows what wonders lie on the page!
