A ridiculous pisstake of the “lonely woman sees murder mystery” trope. High-brow “scary movie” esque 8 episode satire which brilliantly pokes fun at the crime genre and all the mistakes the characters make along the way.
Without giving much away, we the audience are left guessing through each episode on what’s truth and what’s fiction as each scene is played through the mind of the grieving, deeply suffering alcoholic protagonist. The story is skewed and unclear in many parts as we guess the truth and question the authenticity of the protagonist. What’s real and what’s a hallucination?
The eccentricities and hyperbole of the plot and characters reminds me on an SNL skit at parts and kind of reads like a bad Hallmark movie (especially towards the end) but it does keep you guessing like a true telling of this type of story would. My one criticism is the dialogue in a few places is just too childish and not given enough though. Kristen Bell knew what she was doing.
