It’s the most fun I’ve had on Gran Turismo since GT5 and is definitely one of the strongest instalments of the franchise. It has realistic and fun driving physics, some of the best graphics I’ve seen on PS5 with 120hz on a big TV, the PS5’s dualsense controller adds immersion into the game, with the triggers becoming stiff depending on what condition the car is when going through turns or hitting the brakes at a certain speed, it’s amazing, customization is a treat and feels more like it’s from Forza with some amazing tune ability and graphs on cars, a throughout solid track selection but has some missing favourites (Indianapolis, Watkins Glen, Motegi, Autumn ring, New York, Sonoma, there’s a whole list I can make. Car models are full of passion, with every fibre of carbon or paint looks phenomenal especially close up, the menus are smooth and fun with so much personality and the main hub is also fun to go through, this game probably has the best soundtrack in the franchise since GT2. The photo mode is a standout to me, the photo mode allows for so much diversity in your shots with so many setting and background choices, it’s hard to make a picture look bad whatsoever, being able to maintenance your car and fit aero and bodykits on nearly every mainstream car in the game is f**king amazing, it truly is. But with all that is good about this game, there are also some insane, glaring issues. Online servers aren’t good, a lot of good manufactures are missing (Jeep, Zenvo, Koenigsegg, Lotus, Ariel, Bentley, Hennessy, Lexus, Mosler, Rimac, Saleen, Volvo, Kia), there’s others I can list as well. Rally racing is jank as hell with insanely floaty and buggy physics, my car rolls after ever jump, engine sounds are dull and sound computer generated, as well as a lack of backfire or amazing exhaust sounds, and the cafe is lacking a true story, it’s just coming top 3 in races to collect a triplet set of cars with no sense of elevation or rewards, you mindlessly do races and win a set of cars that earlier in the game you won’t use whatsoever. Pushing micro transactions is a turnoff and a half, every time I look at my balance whenever I’m about to buy something in-game and it always says “Top up at PlayStation store” at the bottom of the screen, it sounds very greedy from the devs, almost like they’re trying to remind you that you need in-game currency as an essential, so just give us your irl money, its EA material. The last con I will list is the damage models, more recent racing games has horrible cosmetic damage, Forza, NFS, and recent GT games have sucked with damage models, I was hoping for a change with this game considering it’s also a next gen game, but the damage models look horrible, it’s just some scratches and oil stains, no dents or broken windshield, after getting into a hardcore crash with my car crashing into a wall and some other cars, all that appears is some scratches, almost like someone keyed my car a little too much. So in verdict, it’s far from bad but there is so much room for improvement, I have hope in Polyphony that they can fix this game to its truest potential.
