I've always loved this movie because it's about supposedly smart people whose experiences should have made them more aware of the most obvious matters going on right under their noses. All six of the principles play their interweaving characters exceptionally well. Genevieve Bujold is particularly outstanding as a dreadfully unqualified radio talk host, ironically named Dr Nancy Love, dispensing relationship advice to listeners too willing to trust in an anonymous "expert" rather than in their most intimate acquaintances. Her reaction to the simple sound of a phone ringing at one moment has to be seen. The film's various overlaps in plotting are irresistible. See this decidedly downbeat comedy with an open mind and you may find its low key tone more hilarious than it has generally been advertised. Some are dismayed by the whole thing but when I first saw it back in the eighties, the audience was laughing out loud.
