This show is magical. Insane chemistry (romantic, platonic, comedic). Absurd yet believable and wondrous plot lines that 10,000 scriptwriters or fanfic authors couldn’t come up with in 10,000 years. David Jenkins (the show creator) and the writers are sorcerers. The show never makes easy, mean jokes. It’s the most wholesome show I know while also being the sexiest (violent too, at times—though it’s nearly all absurdist violence, like recreational stabbings). Exceptional lead performances (Taika Waititi and Rhys Darby deserve all of the Emmys), magnetic supporting cast (Leslie Jones! Joel Fry, Vico Ortiz, Nate Faxon, and more!), and the best guest stars (Will Arnett and Kristen Schaal in season 1, Minnie Driver and Rachel House in season 2). It’s a beautiful, fun show. As enjoyable to casually watch as it is to memorize frame by frame. Highly recommend to anyone. Even if you don’t feel like you’re the target audience for the “gay pirate show,” try it anyway. It will improve your life, I promise.
