This is the Godzilla movie the audience always deserved. As a youngin', my first Godzilla movie was unfortunately the Hollywood remake 1998... luckily I managed to pull up some Japanese dubbed and subbed ones on my grandparents satellite dish. I couldn't understand a word of what was being said half the time, didn't matter, Godzilla always saved the day.
This Godzilla was not like that.
What a refreshing take, to use Godzilla's original inspiration as a metaphor of the dangers of the hubris of man, and at the same time, the collective ideal, to come together to tackle the mistakes man has made. It leans heavy into WW2's aftermath, creating a cohesive set of dynamic characters. Absolutely worth watching subbed. I'll be keeping an eye out to see it in theaters as it was absolutely was meant to be experienced in such a way.
