This was an excellent, heartfelt movie that is filled with a story that's interesting from the very beginning & holds your attention til the final moments. Loveable realistic characters, high quality acting, family & friendship dynamics, not your usual predictable film that shares a story of teens where everything ends happily ever after. Unexpected twists & turns. I like how this movie handled tough topics that are often part of life during the high school years. **Trigger warning**: viewers take note; there are some hard to watch scenes that involve sensitive material such as bullying, sexual assault/abuse, mental health struggles, prejudice, etc...language isn't too inappropriate, although there are a few curse words here/there, as well as stereotypical homophobic slurs (spoiler alert: one of the main characters is gay) & there are brief scenes with some violence (a physical fight amongst young men) in the high school's cafeteria, as well as one of the main character's sister getting slapped by her boyfriend during a heated argument. Other reasons for its rating are a few sexual scenes, brief drug use (marijuana, acid), etc...but nothing I felt was too uncomfortable to watch, though of course everyone's opinions vary. I feel that this is most suitable for teens + I wouldn't recommend for a younger audience due to the language, certain mature subjects, violence & sexual scenes, even though they don't include any actual nudity (full or partial). At one point a couple are mid intimacy when the girl's parents surprisingly show up at home (she had expected them gone for the night) so they had to stop unexpectedly & he left to avoid her getting "caught". There's comedies about coming of age & there's dramas...then there's this one. Unforgettable, touching, fun, entertaining, romantic, emotional, bittersweet, it'll take you on a journey back to your own adolescence. I would definitely watch it again! I like how the main character "Charlie" is like a mystery to be solved, and as the story unfolds we can understand why he's the way he is. They also did a fantastic job bringing him out of his awkward, shy shell...if I were him, I'd love to be friends with Sam & Patrick, as well as Mary Elizabeth & the others.
