One of my favorite albums of all time. Not only as a soundtrack but as one simply worth putting on and listening to at any ol' time. Most of the music is very beautiful and easy on the ears. Alot of romance in this music. Calm and soothing. When it does become dramatic or action packed or moody it really hits the spot there as well. John Barry was one of the best composers of his time. Often over shadowed by Williams and Goldsmith though. But he really was a pro. I consider King Kong his very best work. Followed by The Deep which also is such a very beautiful score and full of romance. These two scores were back-to-back and you can tell when listening that some of The Deep was borrowed from King Kong. Atleast in inspiration. The same can be said with Midnight Cowboy and You Only Live Twice. I give the King Kong soundtrack two thumbs up and I don't feel any other composer could have done a better Job even if the composer were in fact John Williams, fresh off of Jaws. Interesting it would be to see what Williams would and could have done for King Kong. But for what John Barry put into this soundtrack I don't think another would have given the listener.
