The acting, score, cinematography, the undercurrent of character development all keep me coming back to this show, sometimes just playing it in the background like a podcast when working on art, ever since I discovered it two years ago.
By now, I know every word and scene and it just doesn't get old. If you are looking for action packed, fast paced space stuff you'll be disappointed. This show requires patience to align with its own pace. It's designed to just sink into.
There are "edge of your seat moments" but they don't carry the show. Penn is not an action hero, but a focused father, astronaut, husband, human, trying to keep it all together and in doing so being almost vulnerable, which is relatable and sincere.
The monochromatic and elegant shooting seems to leave nothing to chance when it comes to artistic approach, underlined by the massive and magnificent score by Colin Stetson.
If you're looking for a show to grow on you alongside its characters, love space and are a Sean Penn fan, please set a day aside, turn it up loud, turn off your phone and take it in - enjoy!
