There was too many different missed opportunities. The character development was extremely poor and the plot was not sufficient. So many pot holes. The previous exorcist movies provided a strong background and history of how the possession happened. This is vital to the story line. What was the purpose of the woods and the abandoned house? Kinda like a Blaire Witch knock off- then there was several missed opportunities of mixing religion. There was very minimal if not any “rite of exorcism” but a lot of “our fathers”. The rite of exorcism is to weaken the demon to obtain its name to call dominion over it. There was no actual rite being performed. Just nuance prayer. Who was the evangelical priest and their role? Very unclear. I did love the voodoo construct and movement to exorcism from different cultures- but not well developed and left incomplete. So many missed opportunities. We only assumed that it was the same demon who possessed Regan, but no back story or reason why. The possession scene was kinda a rip off of the 80’s “prince of darkness”. No real plot development. Poor. How in the hell did the nurse get all the equipment from the hospital? That lifepack was easily $15k.. not to mention the cardiac monitors. Don’t waist your time with this movie. Very very poor. Would’ve been nice to see Captain Howdy again.
