HEARTSTOPPER IS IMPECCABLE!!!
As a gay 16 year old this show is truly amazing. The actors, story line, production, and chemistry is a work of art. I was hesitant to watch Heartstopper at first because I have seen so many LGBTQ+ TV shows and movies that just fell short. Most want to delve into the hardships that LGBTQ+ characters go through while others portray the depressive and suicidal emotions of the characters. And some are just bad. Although these are incredibly present in our society today, it is nice to be able to step aside from those stereotypes and hardships and witness the heartfelt and exciting aspects of being in a LGBTQ+ relationship. Heartstopper does touch on Charlies mental health in episodes 7 and 8, but it does it in a way where we can cry and feel the sadness while also being able to smile and scream with happiness as the situation resolves with Nick and Charlie officially becoming boyfriends. It is a relatively fast paced love story in the sense that a lot of Nick and Charlies scenes are them flirting with each other or kissing but it isn't necessarily a bad thing as it brings tremendous happiness. It is about time that we have a show that portrays the pleasure and joyfulness of an LGBTQ+ relationship. Some people say it's not relatable because there is no sexual activity or extreme depression, however I think it is imperative to the series that it is how it is so that it is age appropriate for any/most ages. Of course most people figure out their sexualities during their teenage years, but there are people who discover their true sexualities well before they reach their teenage years. This allows most everyone to be able to watch and understand the series without having to worry about sex and other "adult activities". Heartstopper is so relatable for me. My coming out story was the ideal story. My parents and friends were completely understanding and supportive. I did however have people at my school make fun of me. I would get asked in the hallway if I was gay or why would I like guys. Charlie has to go through the unfortunate stages of "coming out" because it was leaked by someone. I had someone leak my "coming out" so I understand how it can be difficult. Again, the chemistry of the characters is immaculate. You can tell that Nick and Charlie are extremely close along with Tao and Elle, and Tara and Darcy. Each actor portrays their character so well that in some instances I forget it's even a show. The relatability, happiness, and modern LGBTQ+ story is one-of-a-kind that is completely and utterly satisfying and impactful! I can't wait for 2 more seasons!
