Welcome to the new Hollywood. Instead of racist and sexist stereotypes, we now have "woke" stereotypes. Can a writer please come up with a multi-dimensional character? How about a plot that isn't predictable, overused or preachy? Nash apparently has a huge range...from over the top to wayyyy over the top. I don't know if it is her, or if she is being directed that way and doesn't have the clout or desire to push back, but the character is little more than a caricature, lacking in depth and reality. I don't know why so many people harp on her wardrobe when the acting and dialogue are the offenders in this crime against television. Maybe it's a distraction. I read an article about the MCU and how their "strong female characters" have not earned their power...they are simply the best because reasons. They don't grow into their roles. Simone is the same. She is the best at everything all the time and is always right. But, as everyone knows, being a high school guidance counselor makes you an expert at profiling, interrogation, tactics, deduction, undercover work and, well, everything else. Forget the decades of experience the other characters have in their specific fields of actual law enforcement. Compare this to the original Rookie. Nolan learns from his coworkers. He stumbles, he falls, he screws up royally. Bishop, Harper, Lopez, Bradford and Grey all contribute to what he becomes by season 3. Yes, he has his moments to shine, but those are balanced, and even he is surprised when it works out. Here, Simone is the one doing the teaching all the time. Is this supposed to be a parody? If so, the preaching gets in the way. Is it supposed to be light hearted fun? Terrorists and assassins aren't really good for that. Or is this a bad television show that attempts to throw every woke trope into a main character and hope nobody notices the lack of depth, nuance and realism (for television) in the writing? Hint: a decent show wouldn't rely on constant cameos to remind the audience of the show from which it sprang. The show is just plain awful.
