A tired trope made fresh and unique.
I didn’t expect much from this going in. I Love Andrew Santino and Efron’s only grown on me over the years, that said I was really surprised at how much fun this movie was! My cousin and I can be quite the critic sometimes and we were laughing the whole time loving it. The plot seems like it would be one of those, bad decision that keeps snowballing into more chaos and while that does kind of happen the movie doesn’t stay in that negative space and flips that trope on its head by making Stanicky super likable even with how ridiculous he is.
Cena seems like a terrific person in real life but personally I have never enjoyed his work on the big screen (some outliers of course). Here however, I feel as though he truly gets into the character while still letting his likability shine through. Andrew Santino really kills it here, his reaction alone often got a laugh and while his character was one of the least developed imo he really brought it above the rest. Efron and Fowler serve their characters and work not much more or less either way.
Great fun ride with really terrific and unique jokes peppered throughout. If you want a fun ride then I definitely recommend. I was honestly quite surprised at the scores because I typically am on the same page but I think this is a diamond in the rough.
