Loved this book! If you enjoy fantasy and historical fiction, this is a combination of both in which I was totally spellbound.
There were elements of the book I would have liked to know more about, the art of binding itself and the history of the crusades. However this didn’t stop me being drawn in. It’s not a short book and I read it in 3 sittings, which is a testament to the writing.
Despite being in a bit of a nondescript setting, there are clearly comments on traditional attitudes towards class, gender and sexuality. The POV switches halfway through, which I enjoyed. I had wanted more from the first part of Emmetts experience with Seredith, I felt like something was missing there.
Overall the parts that weren’t embellished enough didn’t ruin the experience for me, they just left me wanting more.
