Bad game.
The most recognizable and profitable IP on the planet and the company behind it makes a game worse than some indie games.
Laughable.
Pros
-same pokemon formula
-there are pokemon
-it works
Cons
-Almost entirely on rails, there is less exploration (outside the "open" Wild Area zones) than in any previous game.
-Wild Area Zones are awful. After about 10 minutes in the first one you'll understand what they are and that is a giant RNG arena, then you'll lose interest. There is no actual exploration nor does it have anything wild about it. You simply wander around the virtual room until you see a pokemon you want. Then you leave.
-The graphics are bad, especially when you compare them to the other big Nintendo hitters like Zelda or Mario. Despite this, the game still experiences slow downs.
-Dynamaxing, just like mega-evolution and Z-moves before it, isn't anything more than a shiny coat of paint. It's only here to differentiate from the previous special evolutions, but since they all effectively do the same thing, it only succeeds at further muddying the water that is pokemon evolution.
-The best thing I can say about the story is that it was boring. Critically, I think GameFreak needs to figure out what many other mediums figured out in the '90s: How to cater to multiple demographics. The story is so childish, that it literally overpowers any nostalgia I might've had. It's no longer ever-green entertainment. They seem to be trying to make it purely for children, which in the end will only hurt them.
TL;DR - If you aren't a shill or <10 years old, don't buy this. GameFreak has gotten lazy and complacent. Do not reward them for this abhorrent "game."
