This movie was extremely flat all the way around. The characters were very one dimensional, and the main girl seemed stiff and lacked a relatable personality. I had hoped that at least Ryan Reynolds would add a fun dynamic, but his character development felt minimal and inauthentic. Mostly he played a semi sour middle aged man. I struggled to empathize with the characters, so I felt fairly apathetic about the plot. The plot, by the way, felt very surface level and plain. It could have been written by a fifth grader for a creative writing essay and gotten a good grade, but for an entire production it’s just disappointing. Sure, the animated imaginary characters were perhaps interesting and John Krasinski made a kind, sweet father, but overall I was super underwhelmed..
I also watched this with five kids whose disinterestedness and restlessness in the theater told a similar option.
