I guess the message I took from the reading of Corruption in China is that it really is just a mild form of corruption in the West. The irony is that Western pundits cry out loud at the alleged lawlessness and barbarity of non-Western cultures and societies, when in reality what they are doing over there is in fact much more subtle and modest, compared to corrupt and criminal hellholes such as San Francisco, Los Angeles, London and Berlin. The essay on Chinese muh-muh workers is best, and the essay on Chinese concept of salary runs deep. The idea to pay a peasant or laborer or state official a full salary is actual dumb, as any socialist in East and West, and indeed any regime or private employer can attest you. Ideally, you want them to own nothing and just feed and house them at their basics, so that they are totally dependent on you. This is exactly what is the case in the totalitarian European Union, in Socialist (they call it Democratic) America. Yes, everybody is riding on evil China for it, but really, this is a global phenomenon and simple political reality.
