Enjoyed this. Even a tear or two. As a Buffalo Bills fan, who watched the 'Music City Miracle' come up one yard short against 'The Greatest Show on Turf', I almost expected that incident to show up in this movie. 20+ years ago, I would have identified with Warner's evangelical admonitions. But the last several years of religious intolerance has affected me greatly. While I was an ordained elder in that world, every mass shooting and horrific injustice makes me wonder WHICH church response would have made me abandon my value system before I did...between when I left in 1997 and now. The most loathsome word in my vocabulary now is hypocrite (I tell YOU to do this, even though I actually did the exact opposite at some point). I watched this Warner movie almost in dread, waiting for 'the cleansing blood of Jesus' to appear in the dialogue. Thankfully, it never does. If you are put off by reviews telling you this is a 'faith based' movie, you need to put that away. This is a story about love and acceptance, not harshness and judgment. If you watch the deleted scenes, you'll get confirmation. The producers edited out that Kurt slept in a separate bed in the garage, instead of sleeping with his beloved. I asked myself, while watching, hey, what about the sleeping arrangements when Kurt moves in with girlfriend's parents? None of that, thankfully, is addressed. This movie will NOT preach at you. Love and acceptance are its core. Enjoy.
