An interesting film. Good? I’m not sure. Bad? Definitely not. The ending is weirdly good if a little unusual but it makes sense given what has gone before. What I found most interesting was the playing out of a whole lifetime in a day, giving us a microscopic insight into the macroscopic whole. It’s hard to be too precise for fear of giving too much away, but to see a whole lifetime and 2 generations pass in 24 hours I believe was a refreshing take on how to look at human behaviour over long periods but in a very short period of time.
Some of the acting in this film left a bit to be desired and it felt occasionally a bit b movie’ish but the general idea was very good. The location was of course stunning but the film still managed to be nicely claustrophobic. The idea of being in such an amazing place whilst being trapped in such a small area was an excellent polarisation and for me was a big plus.
All in all the main thing I can say in the film’s favour was that it kept me intrigued and interested to the very end and was a refreshing change from so many ‘non stop action’ films that seem to be the norm these days. A cerebral exercise in film making that has its faults but at least tests the intelligence of its audience.
