What the fuck was this? The first Joker was a masterpiece compared to this. This just feels like a middle finger to the first film and the people who loved it. I watched it at the cinema today, and it mainly felt like a waste of 2 hours. The positives are that the actors were good, especially Joaquin Phoenix. He was just as good as the first one, and the cinematography was pretty good, even in the musical segments. Now, let's start with the negatives. The musical scenes. Holy crap they were so unnecessary. I did like the concept of exploring Arthur's head and turning it into a musical, but they did WAY too much and they dragged way too long. It also felt like there was little to no plot in this film. Joker meets Harley, he attends court and...the rest is singing after singing...after singing. And do NOT get me started on that ending. It genuinely pissed me off when I watched it. I won't spoil it for any of you, but if you know what happens, you know what happens. Overall, this was just a fucking disappointment compared to the first one. I am tempted to give it a 4/10, which is probably a bit too generous. If you love the first one to death, I'll give you some advice. Do NOT watch the sequel and act like it doesn't exist.
