With all due respect to the folks who found this series amazing, I thought it was good enough entertainment, marred by an entire cast who, with a couple exceptions, were all trying too hard.
The Vince Vaughn of True Detective fame was literally awful in that series because he was being asked to ACT. In this series he was tasked with being Carl Hiaasen’s fast talking smart mouth. This was more in his wheelhouse because it involved no acting just machine gunning the script and one liners. Most of the other actors teetered on the brink of caricature and the script did them no favours. That’s where the narrator voice came in, to make sure both plot and the inner lives of the cardboard characters to some extent came alive. As I said, entertaining so far as it went, but if you missed it, no great loss.
