I don’t like to read reviews before I read a book—for fear of spoilers. So I had no idea what to expect from this book. I must say that I found it to be one of the most delightful books I have ever read. Linus Baker, a follower of rules and regulations, finds himself in the strange position of evaluating an orphanage inhabited by “magical youth.” It was fun to see these children through his eyes, and then watch them win him over with their unique little selves. I listened to the audiobook in my car on my daily commute and I found myself smiling and tearing up at many of the moments in this novel. Just read it. You’ll be glad you did.
