Although it was great to revisit Pandora once again for nostalgia sake, the movie itself was pretty bad. There were numerous plot holes and a lot of the decisions made by the characters did not make sense. I don’t want to spoil the movie so I’m not going to go into too many details.
However, a couple of things I noticed: it’s difficult to tell the Navi characters apart (they basically all look the same, especially Jake’s two sons). The movie is really long, and filled with liberal mumbo jumbo about how humans are brainless buffoons and only out to waste the planet in the name of profits. In Avatar 1 humans were after unobtanium for profit. In Avatar 2 humans are after Ambergris. Much to my disappointment, James Cameron goes above and beyond to show humanity as evil, out to destroy Pandora rather than focusing on the good people can do when they work together.
Not only that, but James Cameron has turned Jake into a spineless wuss in this movie. In the first movie he was pretty cool, but in this movie it seems like he’s even scared of his own shadow! The writers basically castrated him and all he’s good for now is running away in fear and hiding.
Overall, this is a long, drawn out bad movie. The only thing kinda cool about this movie was the CGI. Everything else was blah.
