I found the story to be quite realistic. 14 members of our church studied the immigration issues at the border several years ago through BorderLinks. We lived with families in Nogales, MX, talked to border patrols, met with workers at factories, met coyotes and the folks they were readying for the trip north. We also walked in the desert for only one hour, but that experience helped us imagine the terror these neighbors experience. There were many tears from folks we met. Heartbreaking.
I know there are controversies over the author not being Latinx. I think her research was spot on. Perhaps others will write first hand accounts as well.
