1917 (the movie, in theaters now)
It was refreshing and I was relieved to watch a movie wherein I didn't know any of the actors OR their political and social justice warrior status or positions. I didn't have to gird myself for the political ramifications of an action or watch for the politically correct modifications of a historical drama. So it was a good movie.
Despite the blood and guts and gore and death and gross and disgusting...it was enjoyable. Two men sent on a mission, one with a real family driven passion, form a connection on a battlefield and under enemy fire. When one of the men dies the other continues on tirelessly, although spectacularly, to finish the mission.
We don't go to many movies. I have some difficulty separating the politics of the day from the actors and their SJW positions and incessant need of Hollywood to be inclusive and diverse at the expense of a good story. I give this ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ /5 for keeping the story in line.
I like a good war movie and I believe that every good war movie is also a good anti-war movie. Any war movie that's worth watching has to show the inhumanity of war, and the collateral casualties that the inhumanity of war causes. The difficulty is in balancing the inhumanity of death and destruction with human connection and love. This balance is achieved in this film, but it is laborious and disconnected. ⭐️⭐️⭐️/5
The plot is predictable. The scenes and sets are gross, disgusting and realistic. The action and survivability of the main character is a bit dis-believable. Overall I'd rate this movie at a 3.5⭐️/5. It was a good night out and a decent movie to watch. (I wouldn't pay to see it twice.)
