This production is far closer to Eco's original than the movie was, both in style and content. It is much slower, with much more historical context. It's a wonderful book if you have the patience for it, and this production is wonderful for the same reasons.
The performances are true to the original characters, which the film lost sight of somewhat in order to fit it into the timeframe required for a movie. I'm not saying the book is better than the film. Movies have limitations that books and their tv adaptations are not constrained by.
Bravo.
