This may be the best example of a film that can be described as both technically impressive and wholly unwatchable. At no point will the writing instill any human emotion in the viewer other than pure disdain. You will feel no sympathy for leading cast villain or victim. The only characters you feel anything for are the side characters used as collateral damage. As for the actors, they have done a wonderful job of portraying the garbage they are cast as. You will believe that you can hate Kevin Bacon and Josh Brolin, to the point that you may never be able to enjoy their other performances. In summary, impressive effects do not make up for a lack of compelling characters.
